2008 Notre Dame Entrepreneurship Society Dinner with the CEO Series

Co-Founder of the Notre Dame Gigot Center of Entrepreneurial Studies

Distinguished Notre Dame Alumni Award Recipient

Not only is Jeff Bernel the chairman of UniTek Sealing Solutions, the founder of Bernel Investments, the former CEO of American Rubber Products, a Professional Specialist in the Mendoza College of Business, and a world-class entrepreneur, he is also the advisor and a valued friend of the Notre Dame Entrepreneurship Society. He'll be one of the marquee names of the CEO Dinner Series in the 2009 Academic Year.

Why Entrepreneurship Society?

"I was very impressed with the meeting last night and feel encouraged that entrepreneurship is alive and well at Notre Dame. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Prof. Jim Davis and I were the original founders of the Gigot Center, so I have a lot of personal equity in the movement.

Lee Svete, Notre Dame's Director of Career Services

Lee Svete, Notre Dame's Director of Career Services, is the College's new Director of Career Development. He is responsible for the overall MBA career development strategy and operation, which includes the MBA and Executive MBA programs as well as the Masters in Accountancy program. Svete will continue as ND's Career Center Director, and is integrating the University's and the College's placement teams.

"The innovations that Lee and his team have developed include City Tours, an aggressive job lead generation program (focused on small, mid-sized growth firms), and leveraging the joint power of career services programs at top universities around the country," said Associate Dean Joe Urbany. "Lee's team has also been instrumental in the ND NetWorks initiatives (see this article), which builds relationships with alumni in targeted cities and high-growth industries."

Since arriving at Notre Dame in July 1999, Svete and his staff at the Notre Dame Career Center improved the number and prestige of student placements across the university, both in internships and jobs. This year, he was the first recipient of the newly-established College of Arts and Letters Award of Appreciation. The award honors "an outstanding colleague outside the college whose work adds immeasurably to the college and enriches its life." Before coming to Notre Dame, Svete was Director of Career Services at Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y.

Why Entrepreneurship Society?

"I stumbled onto the scene a few weeks into my freshman year. I don't know what I was expecting, but I found more than I could have hoped for. The people are welcoming and enthusiastic about entrepreneurship. There is a certain captivating energy about the club that made you pause and take a second look. The Entrepreneurship Society has been a wonderful experience for me and I'm excited to be part of these formative years."
